As it is with the upcoming release of the #UnityUIExtensions, for 2022 we have had to make a clean break for Text, it is a breaking change but you have to go with the flow. Not so much an issue for a game or project as you just switch.īut for asset creators who can components based on Text, it is a nightmare. There is no forward path between the old Text component and TextMeshPro, no common ground they are completely separate things. The latest pain is Unity 2022, as Unity have "half" deprecated the old UI Text object in favour of TextMeshPro. * Simply deprecate things because it is not worth the hassle to make them work again * Have components be version aware and have code locked behind compiler definitions * Maybe having different versions of components that are version dependent So when you try to manage an asset that needs to support multiple versions of Unity, you constantly flying from: Unity was not built with backwards compatibility in mind, it is always matching forwards. Lol, working with Unity in the Mixed Reality space certainly keeps you on your toes, but not so much as being an Asset author.
